With autumn only days away, the Victor Valley and mountain communities might see some cloudy skies, a small chance of light rain and cooler temperatures.

Rain is expected to move into Southern California Wednesday night through Friday morning, the National Weather Service reported.

The bulk of the storm will occur north of Orange County to Central California and west of Wrightwood.

With rainfall, roads may become slick due to oil buildup from the dry season, according to National Weather Service officials, who took to social media to say, “Drive carefully and slide into the weekend…not other vehicles!”

High temperatures in the Victor Valley are expected to range from the low to high 70s, with Adelanto and Victorville being the warmest areas.

Barstow will see highs in the low 80s, while Big Bear in the San Bernardino Mountains, and Wrightwood in the San Gabriel Mountains, experience temperatures in the low 60s.

San Bernardino, Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga will see high temps in the mid-70s.

The forecast includes high temperatures in the 90s returning Sunday.

California welcomes autumn

The autumnal equinox marks the official start of fall or autumn, this year on Sunday, Sept. 22.

The word “equinox” stems from the Latin words “aequus” and “nox,” which mean “equal or even” and “night,” respectively. That’s because there is nearly the same amount of night and day during an equinox.

The winter solstice will be Saturday, Dec. 21, marking the start winter months.

Weather affecting Line Fire, Bridge Fire

The rain and cooler weather may benefit fire personnel on the Line Fire, southwest of Big Bear and the Bridge Fire, mostly south of Wrightwood.

Higher relative humidity and good moisture recoveries are resulting in reduced fire activity associated with the Line Fire, according to the National Forest Service on Tuesday.

On Tuesday night, the Line Fire was at 39,111 acres and was 49% contained, while the Bridge Fire was at 54,795 acres and 35% contained.
