A look at remaining schedules for the Cubs and other wild card contenders - Bleed Cubbie Blue

Yes, I’m saying there’s still a… very… small… chance.

at Dodgers (3), at Rockies (3), Athletics (3), Nationals (4), at Phillies (3), Reds (3)

The Cubs really needed a 4-2 homestand and they got one that was 2-4 instead. The remaining schedule still has quite a number of games the Cubs could win over bad teams. If I had to guess right now, they’d probably need to go 15-4 or 16-3 over the remaining 19 games to have a chance, and then they’d still need help.

More likely, they’ll win 12 or 13 of these games and wind up with 85 or 86 wins.

Mets, 19 games (7 home, 12 road)

at Blue Jays (3), at Phillies (3), Nationals (3), Phillies (4), at Braves (3), at Brewers (3)

The Mets actually have a winning record on the road, so the road-heavy schedule might not be such a bad thing for them.

On the other hand, the seven games vs. the Phillies might. Plus they still have to play the Braves and Brewers.

Braves, 19 games (11 home, 8 road)

Reds (1), at Nationals (2), Dodgers (4), at Reds (3), at Marlins (3), Mets (3), Royals (3)

Unless the Cubs go on some sort of great run, the third wild-card spot likely gets decided in that Mets/Braves series the last week of the season. Atlanta does still have to play the Dodgers, but they get them at home.

The game vs. the Reds today is a makeup for an earlier rainout.

Cardinals, 19 games (10 home, 9 road)

Reds (3), at Blue Jays (3), Pirates (4), Guardians (3), at Rockies (3), at Giants (3)

I include the Cardinals here even though they are a game behind the Cubs entering tonight’s action and Fangraphs has their playoff chances at 0.6 percent, even lower than the Cubs.

But St. Louis does have some winnable games here, so you never know.
